Works Cited Page Formatting
Common Mistakes on a Works Cited page:
Works Cited - should be centered at the top of the page - (not All Caps, not Italicized)
Citations should be listed in alphabetical order by the first word of the citation unless it is A, An or The from a title.
Ignore A, An, or The when alphabetizing, but do include it in the citation.
Citations are NOT numbered.
Use hanging indents (Hanging indents begin all the way to the left, any continuing lines are indented 1/2 inch).
The entire page is double-spaced. There are not 4 blank lines between citations.
The Works Cited page is numbered as the last page of your paper.
Abbreviate all months except May, June and July.
All dates are written: Day Month Year - For example: 11 June 2014 or 14 Apr. 2011.
If a piece of information is missing, such as the author's name, omit it and continue to provide everything available, except where instructed, e.g. websites.
If you need to divide a URL, divide it only after a slash. Put the cursor after the slash and press the space bar. Do not put a hyphen.
For a book with a corporate author - use the corporate name without A, An or The at the beginning.
If a title begins with a numeral, alphabetize as though the number is spelled out. e.g. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea = Twenty-thousand.....
DO NOT cite the Search Engine you used to find articles, images, and other information.
